Yield!

I don’t know about you, but, no one else seems to be able to drive as well as me. Especially when it comes to a yield sign!! One of my biggest frustrations in driving is trying to get off of the freeway in Oklahoma. Their on/off ramps are pretty tight and there are so many people who just fly from the on ramp and try to jump right on to the freeway without yielding. It’s like that sign isn’t even there and they are going to force the traffic that is flying by at 70-80 miles an hour to stop so that THEY can get on. GRRRR.

I asked google “what is the proper way to yield? This is the answer I got: “Yielding the right-of-way means allowing other road users, such as vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists, to proceed before you, even if you have the legal right to go. In traffic, it's about ensuring safety by giving way to those who have the immediate right of way, preventing potential collisions.“

Yesterday we had a man preaching, I LOVE his preaching because he gives illustrations in story form and this helps me to grasp what he is saying. The only problem is, if you are a note taker like me, it is hard to keep up with all of the ”good” things, so my goal is to ask the Lord to make things stand out that I need to remember. Yield was something that just hit me like a ton of bricks.

He was talking about Yielding to Holy Spirit. He said that he asked the Lord how to do that and he thought of what he did at a yield sign, he said, I SLOW DOWN; LOOK; AND STOP if I need to give the “RIGHT-OF-WAY.” It still gives me chills thinking about what he said. I GIVE up my RIGHT to MY way! I LOVED the definition, it made the Lords point to me even more important, “even if you have the LEGAL right to go.”

In the Bible in 1 Corinthians 10:23 ”All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify(build up). Let no one seek his own, but each one the others well being.“ In the world we are living in this sounds so wrong, but as a Christ follower we are to YIELD the right to have our way if it is going to cause harm. I am not saying don’t have boundaries, but, I truly believe that we use that term to protect ourselves and keep from giving up our rights. We are to love, that is where the WHOLE law lies, in sacrificing our rights for others.

I am not talking about not confronting sin, that is not love, warning someone who is headed directly into a fire is love, even if they don’t want to hear it. I am asking the Lord, “how am I not yielding my right to have my way?” This is a great question for me considering I just got married last week. It can be easy to demand my way – but I don’t want to live like that – neither do I want to never say what I need or feel is right, that isn’t healthy either. I heard someone say “love without truth is not love; truth without love is also not love.”

I get to yield to the Lord, and KNOW that He WILL take care of me(1 Peter 5:7), He WILL fight for me (Isaiah 14:14), HE will sustain me (Psalm 55:22). When I totally let go of ME, MY RIGHTS, MY way, and completely submit to the Lord – this, as Papa God told me one day, is total surrender, and “I can work with that.” If you dare, ask the Lord where you are still not yielding the right to have your way, He will tell you.
